Welcome to the January phase of SINGAPUNK BIENNALE!

Our opening day was slow because it was set up day, thanks those who came! The next 5 days are going to come fast, hard and fun as hell!

Lookout for our anchor event PUNK THEATRICS, running from 22-24 Jan (Wed-Fri), as well as the introduction of the PUNK THEATRICS All-In / Pao-ka-leow ticket going for $40 each direct from The Substation Box Office!

Also check out other events such as LABEL RESIDENCY, MAKE YOUR OWN DEMO, PUNK PLAYGROUND, THE GATHERING and of course the very much anticipated DISTRO DAY OUT 2014!

SINGAPUNK BIENNALE January 2014 programmes!!!!

Hello all

Welcome to 2014!

The December programmes were awesome, thanks all for making it happen!

We have a similar groundbreaking line up for the January 2014 phase of SINGAPUNK BIENNALE!

It will run from 20-25th January, with the original 26th January slot CANCELLED.  Why, because it is smack in the middle of a hectic January-February period for anyone involved in punkrock and alternative arts. It will be after the much-awaited DISTRO DAY OUT 2014 on 25th January, so lets NOT do an anti-climatic overkill.

They will all be at The Substation in 3 different areas; the Theatre, Gallery and Random Room!

We have these programmes in store for you

RANDOM ROOM (3pm - 9pm daily, FREE!)

- LABEL RESIDENCY : the little Random Room will be turned into an improvised record store from 20-22nd January!

- PUNK PLAYGROUND : after Label Residency the room decor will segue into a Punk Playground, a kids-friendly playroom to pay homage to punks who are also parents. Not only are they responsible, they are STILL punkrock and whacko, they didnt become boring like some of you who might be reading this. Haha. 23-25th January!

THEATRE (various timings)

- MAKE YOUR OWN DEMO : is based on an Open Call where all bands/artists are invited to record their demos for FREE! This is solely on a first come first served basis and will run only on 21st January (Tue) from 3pm-9pm! Email singapunk@gmail.com for more details. 20th January is a non-participative set up day where only certain lucky bastards will be invited. (RSVP only)

- PUNK THEATRICS (7pm - 10pm) : this is the grande programme of SINGAPUNK Biennale in January. Punks and theatre? Punkrockers and acting? Actors working with punks? Whaaaaat??? 3 days, from 22-24 January, are you sure? Skits, playlets and a double bill musical!!! WHOAAAA! It might work or be a total disaster. Come and find out!

• Wed Jan 22 (SKITSOPHRENIA) - $15 entry
• Thurs Jan 23 (PROPORTIONALITY : a double bill playlet feature!) - $15 entry programme A // $15 entry programme B (or both for $20)
• Friday Jan 24 (PUNK MUSICAL : a double bill acoustic musical?!) - $20 entry
  
  Also lookout for the PUNK THEATRICS zine, a possible PUNK THEATRICS SEASON PASS (watch everything for $40 flat!) and of course the manic mysterious weirdo; Joe Lobang.

 

GALLERY (3pm-9pm daily, FREE!)

- The GATHERING : is a symposium revolving around the crafts of Silkscreen Printing, Fine Art, Photography and...uhm....Haircuts. It's going to be fun as hell and will run from 20-23rd January, from 3pm - 9pm.

- IN THE SHADOWS....is a fringe event of Punk Theatrics. The Substation Gallery will be turned into a dramatized museum, resembling ruins, to the chants and moans of the angry mob. Performed in darkness by a motley crue of hardcore punks! This will be a special elite time from 6pm to 8pm on 24th January!

- DISTRO DAY OUT 2014 : in its 3rd year. A carnival of South East Asian distros. That's pretty much all you need to know because it will be super fun!

As usual all programmes are free unless otherwise stated.

Hello everyone

The year is approaching its end.

The December leg of SINGAPUNK BIENNALE was absolutely fantastic. Pictures are all over the internet, and we'll post some here when we get the chance. No copyright. What do you think we are; pretentious artist types? Haha.

January is hitting us real soon and we have an interesting programme lined up for you in January. This includes workshops, dramatics, theatrics and a lot more aesthetic explorations. We're also linking up with some local record label people (for some reason they like to stay low-key, maybe because too many 'art rebels' like to take credit for things that supposedly serve a community) for DISTRO DAY OUT 2014. It's an exhibition/flea market of local and regional distribution/record labels.

Thus in short; enjoy the holidays, embrace the new year, keep it real and never let life bring you down. 

For the January phase of SINGAPUNK BIENNALE, expect more mind blowing work by the supposedly 'useless' punkrockers, theatrical experiments, aesthetic dissertations and more Joe Lobang ridiculousness.

The counterculture of punk is often misunderstood as being synonymous with chaos and negativity, when in fact it is engaged in an ideological interrogation of power and authority. In Singapore, where globalisation and capitalism are the de facto structures of everyday life, the DIY punk community has moved from emulating Western punk rock archetypes to developing its own identity – one that is relevant to Southeast Asia yet still part of a worldwide network. Under the banner of SINGAPUNK BIENNALE – PUNK: Process, Progress, Protest, the community will introduce a variable world of processes that refuses to acknowledge the idea of permission and governance.
